Frequently Asked Questions

I. Initial Consultation

Our process is designed to guide you in choosing garments that complement your personal style, figure and lifestyle. During your initial consultation, our team will work closely with you to determine fit preferences, sizing and initial measurements, as well as explore studio collection silhouettes and fabrics.  Initial consultations may be completed in our New Orleans studio, at home (virtual), or at one of our partnered ‘‘trunk shows.’

II. Selection of Silhouettes, Fabrics and Detailing

Throughout the process, we work closely with you to curate a look that is tailored to you and your lifestyle. You will have the opportunity to browse our signature silhouettes and choose from an assortment of the finest quality fabrics. Made-to-measure garments are made in New York City and are typically ready within 3-4 weeks, unless otherwise noted. If you have an event date in mind, please be sure to mention your intended delivery date at the time of your initial consultation.

III. Fittings & Alterations

Once your custom garments are ready, we will schedule a follow-up fitting (in-person or virtual) to review the fit together and determine any adjustments or minor alterations that need to be made. Our fitting and alteration processes are thorough, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable in each piece.

IV. Future Orders

We keep a detailed record of all appointments, fittings and consultations to make the reordering process seamless and efficient. Whether you wish to reorder an existing silhouette in a new seasonal fabric or explore new looks altogether, our team will assist you in creating the next piece in your wardrobe collection.

In-studio consultations and fittings are available by appointment only. If you are unable to visit our studio in person, you may request an at-home in-person or virtual consultation with a try-on kit. Please be aware that try-on kits are limited. During your virtual consultation, we will work with you to determine fit preferences, sizing and initial measurements, as well as explore silhouettes, fabrics, and customization options. Our clothiers will then customize a try-on kit according to your fit and style preferences with personalized recommendations for fabric swatches. Sample garments will be provided in your closest size and will be used as a basis to determine any alterations or adjustments needed.

All garments in the LAKAN collection are crafted with an insistence on fit and form. During your initial appointment, we will work together to establish your fit and style preferences and take your body measurements. After your first appointment, a second fitting for all custom garments will be arranged. During this second fitting, we will determine whether any additional adjustments or minor alterations need to be made. All alterations and adjustments made before the delivery of the final garment are complimentary, unless it is a result of significant body or preferred fit changes. Any alterations requested after the final fitting will be at the discretion of the client and are not included in the cost of original garment.

Any garments purchased off-the-rack will not undergo the fitting and complimentary alterations step of the process. If picking up your garments in-studio, experienced members of our team are happy to assist in the tailoring process and pass along negotiated tailoring rates; however, LAKAN will not be responsible for the associated costs.

The LAKAN collection includes a variety of pre-designed silhouettes, including two-piece suits, double- and single-breasted jackets, trousers, vested shells, skirting, and shirts available in Ready-to-Wear or Made-to-Measure sizing. Our clothiers have an eye for silhouettes and styles that flatter a woman’s physical form, and we are here to guide you in making selections that complement your needs and lifestyle.

Every LAKAN garment is made in New York City by a team of highly skilled master tailors and under the direct supervision of our in-house NYC-based production team. All of our jacketing and other core silhouettes involve an intricate level of hand stitching and thoughtful craftsmanship to enable the highest quality of fit, form and function.

Our premium fabric selections are sourced in limited run collections from the world’s finest textile designers. Garments can be customized with distinctive fit and fabrics according to your specifications, giving each LAKAN piece a long, storied life in your wardrobe.

For Jackets

Allow your jackets and pants to rest in between wears. Hang jackets properly on a full-shoulder wishbone hanger with plenty of air to circulate. If traveling with your LAKAN jacket and without access to a proper full-shoulder hanger, we recommend gently folding your jacket in half and draping over a chair. Never hang your jacket on a skinny wooden or wire hanger as the canvassed shoulders could become damaged or form to an improperly fitting shape. Dry clean as little as possible, or never. Freshen with steam.

For Pants

We encourage a freshened and re-structured look with a professional press, but keeping exposure to the dry-cleaning process as limited as possible.

For Shirts

A professional launder and press is our recommendation. Please ask your preferred cleaner not to press over any real mother of pearl buttons as they are delicate and could break.

For Vested Shells and Skirting

A fresh steam or professional dry clean is recommended as necessary.
